UNIT 1 GLOSSARY

Take the bull by the horns: To confront a problem head-on and deal with it openly.

Two heads are better than oneTwo people working together have a better chance of solving a problem than one person working alone.

To keep your head above the water: Survive financially.

It´s as easy as pie: Something very easy.

Pie-eyed: Someone very drunk.

To have a finger in many pies: Someone is involed in lots of different activities.

A bad egg: If we want tosay that someone is bad or dishonest.

Don´t pull all your eggs in one basket: You should never trust only one plan.

He got egg on his face: If someone makes a mistake which makes him/her look stupit.

Breaking point: The weak part of a person or an instrument.

Dropped: Lose weight.

Purging: Vomit but doing by yourself not accidentally.

Compussively: Doing something a lot of time without think.

Long term effects: Effects that they appeared after that you doing something.

Follow in your footsteps: Doing the same of other person.

Full of beans: If someone is full of energy.

I haven´t got a bean: If someone haven´t got money.

Spill the beans: If we want  to tell us something secret.

It´s a hot potato: If there is a delicate issue and people can´t agree.

They´re like two peas in a pod: If two people look very similar.

It´s not my cup of tea: If there´s something we don´t like much.

I wouldn´t do it for all the tea in China: If there´s something we would never do it.

It´s as good as a chocolate teapot: If something is complety useless we say this expression.

He is gone bananas: When someone is very emotional and starts shouting and behaving in a crazy way.

It´s a case of sour grapes: If someone pretends not to be impressed by something bacause he/she feels jaelous.

A second bite of a cherry: An other opportunity. Try to do something a second time.

Chairperson: Who controls the debate.

Adjudicator: Who says who dinner.

Time-keeper: Who controls the time.

Teams: Groups.

Speaker: Who talks in the team.

There are planty more fish in the sea:It means that there are other  choices in a situation.

The icing on the cake: It is used to refer to something good which is added to an already good thing or situation. 

It´s jus not cricket: If something is unfair or dishonest.

To toy with (somebody or something): Means not to take someones feeling´s seriously.

Toyboy: Is the younger boyfriend of an older person.

Like a tone of bricks: It is used to express something that is heavy. It can be literally.

To fly nest: Means to heave your parents home for live somewhere else.

A nest egg: Its an amount of money you have saved in the future.

I wasn´t born yesterday: If someone is telling you a very obvious lie.

To have a whale of time: Means to have a lot of fun while doing something.

Size of a whale: It is an impolite way of saying someone is large.

Horoscopes: diagram of the heavens, showing the relative position of planets and the signs of the zodiac, foruse in calculating births, foretelling events in a person's life, etc. 

Fortune teller: A person who claims the ability to predict the future.

Tarot reader: A person who reads your future in a special cards.

The big cheese: Is the most important or powerful person in a group or organization.

Chalk and cheese: We use this expression to define two people who are very different to each other.

Alittle bird told me: If you have some information but you don´t want to reval who told you.

Tobe or tohave a big mouth: you talk too much especially sbout things which should be kept in secret or avoided.
